Panel 1: Media Diversity Challenges Then and Now
Media diversity is not just a Hollywood problem. It is a national problem with serious economic, social and political implications. Fifty years after the Kerner Commission Report highlighted the need for increased media diversity, the diversity numbers have not gotten much better nor has media bias and stereotyping of people of color and poor whites.
This panel discussion is designed to allow media pioneers to share their insights on why it is so critical that Congress and the body politic make increasing media diversity a national priority and to prescribe potential win-win-win initiatives to move the needle.
